Stuart M. Axelrod, Esq., Myrtle Beach DUI Attorney and Criminal Defense and Personal Injury Lawyer, has been in practice since March, 1998. In 2005 he founded and opened Axelrod & Associates, P.A. in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. In 2015 he opened a satellite office in Rock Hill, South Carolina. As owner and founder of Axelrod & Associates, P.A. Mr. Axelrod oversees all areas of practice within the firm and strives to take an active role in each client’s case/matter.
Mr. Axelrod is admitted to practice before all Courts in the state of South Carolina including the South Carolina Court of Appeals, Supreme Court, and the U.S. District Court for the 4th Circuit. He earned his J.D. from Rutgers Law School in 1997. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Coastal Carolina University having graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1992. He was the class Valedictorian and recipient of the President’s Award for Highest Grade Point Average during his undergraduate education.
Mr. Axelrod previously worked as an Assistant Public Defender with the Horry County Public Defenders’ Office and as contract attorney with the Georgetown Public Defender’s Office from 2003 – 2012 where he honed his trial skills and unrelenting tenacity in the courtroom.
Mr. Axelrod has extensive legal and trial experience, having more than 200 trials in South Carolina courts, and takes pride in providing quality representation to all clients for whom he and this firm have the privilege to represent. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Horry County Bar Association, South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys’ Association, South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
Caitlin M. Epley, Esq.
Caitlin M. Epley, Esq. is an Associate Attorney for Axelrod & Associates, P.A. who primarily handles Personal Injury matters with a focus on motor vehicle, trucking, and motorcycle accidents, and slip and fall claims. Ms. Epley has also helped foster parents pursue the adoption of their foster children through the South Carolina Department of Social Services. She was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a Specialization in Western European studies focusing on German linguistics. While at Michigan State University she was named to the Dean’s list and was the recipient of the Michigan Merit Award Scholarship and the Michigan Competitive Scholarship.
Ms. Epley attended law school at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where she was named to the Dean’s List for multiple terms. She graduated with her Juris Doctor degree in law in 2011. Ms. Epley also earned a Certificate of Merit for her academic excellence and achievement in Federal Administrative Law. While in law school she served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board as well as participated in the foreign student programs. She completed an international law program at the University of St. Michael’s College in Toronto, Canada and at the University of Vienna Law School in Vienna, Austria. Ms. Epley also served as a Judicial Intern and Law Clerk for the Honorable Joseph J. Farah of Michigan’s 7th Circuit Court of Genesee County. Ms. Epley served as a Student Trial Lawyer and Investigator with Michigan’s Washtenaw County Public Defender’s office where she earned a Certificate of Professional Achievement Award.
Ms. Epley has contributed to the needs of the community by volunteering her time for the South Carolina Bar Association’s Ask-a-Lawyer telephone bank; providing legal services in the Wills clinic for Habitat for Humanity; and serving as a scoring judge for the High School and Middle School Mock Trial competition.
She is a licensed to practice law in all state courts for the State of South Carolina and is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, Horry County Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the South Carolina Association of Justice. Ms. Epley is also the President for the Horry County Bar Association and an active participant of the Coastal Women Lawyer’s Association and South Carolina Women’s Law Association.
Craig Anderson Snook, Esq.
Music and Intellectual Property
Mr Snook has practiced law in Myrtle Beach and throughout South Carolina since 1987. He is a long time resident of Myrtle Beach having moved here in 1970 when his family returned to the United States after several international tours of duty with the United States Government. He graduated from Myrtle Beach High School and The University of South Carolina Coastal (now Coastal Carolina University) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Finance. He is a graduate of The University of South Carolina School of Law where he was selected to participate in the Federal Litigation Clinical Program and served as President, Vice-President and Membership Chairman of the International Legal Fraternity Phi Delta Phi. Following law school he was admitted to the practice of law in South Carolina and returned home to begin his legal career. Since then he has represented clients in all South Carolina state and federal courts including the United States District Court, the South Carolina Court of Appeals and the South Carolina Supreme Court. He has represented numerous clients before the South Carolina Workers’ Compensation Commission as well as in various administrative, arbitration and mediation proceedings.
In addition to 29 years of civil litigation experience, Mr. Snook has a multifaceted business law practice ranging from creation of business entities, general corporate and LLC representation, contract negotiation and preparation, internal and external dispute resolution, business acquisitions and sales, and outside counsel consultation to licensing and compliance evaluation. His business law practice has encompassed multiple and diverse areas of representation ranging from commercial real estate and development to music publication agreements. Overall his practice focuses on contract preparation and negotiation, business transactions and disputes, music and entertainment matters, civil litigation, workers’ compensation, products liability, and personal injury claims involving severe injuries, deaths or disabilities.
Mr. Snook is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, South Carolina association of Justice (SCAJ), Injured Workers Advocates (IWA), Horry County Bar Association, and the Worker’s Compensation and Solo and Small Practice Section of the South Carolina Bar. He is a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach Masonic Lodge 353. He is also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Freemason and a Knight Templar in York Rite Freemasonry. Mr. Snook is an accomplished musician and his recreational interests include surfing, tennis, soccer, running, computers and technology. He is a lifelong fan of South Carolina Gamecock sports as well as the Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, and of course, the CCU Chanticleers. His absolute favorite is playing the guitar and playing with his dog “Rock.”
Laura L. Hiller, Esq.
Laura Hiller is an Associate Attorney with Axelrod & Associates, P.A. who focuses her practice on criminal defense throughout the state of South Carolina. Mrs. Hiller received her undergraduate degree from Clemson University, graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in English. Mrs. Hiller attended law school at the Charleston School of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 2007. While in law school, Laura worked with both the Darlington County Public Defender’s office and the for the Federal Public Defender’s officer in Charleston, South Carolina.
Mrs. Hiller was admitted to the South Carolina bar in May 2008 and has focused her career on defending those who have been accused and charged with crimes. She has represented individuals in receiving basic traffic infractions, misdemeanor charges and serious felonies. Mrs. Hiller is admitted to practice in all South Carolina Courts has appeared in court throughout the Grand Strand, Pee Dee, Low County and the Upstate.
Mrs. Hiller is a member of the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the former Treasurer of the Horry County Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mrs. Hiller has received certification for the Standard Field Sobriety Test and she is a graduate of the rigorous Trial Practice Institute program which is offered by the National Criminal Defense College. This program allowed Mrs. Hiller to hone her courtroom skills and provided her with advanced jury trial training and experience. Mrs. Hiller is also a member of the Horry County Bar Association, the Greenville Bar Association and the Coastal Women’s Law Association.
In her free time, Mrs. Hiller enjoys the beauty of the coast with her husband and three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels: Charley, Joey, and Trio.
William J. Nowicki, Esq.
William J. Nowicki, Esq. is an Associate Attorney for Axelrod & Associates, P.A. who primarily handles Criminal and Personal Injury matters. Mr. Nowicki has been practicing law since 2001 and is licensed in both South Carolina and North Carolina. Mr. Nowicki is in our Rock Hill, South Carolina Office located at 331 E. Main Street, Suite 200.
Mr. Nowicki was born and raised just outside of Buffalo, New York. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and earned a bachelor’s degree in English Literature with a minor in Political Science. Mr. Nowicki earned his Juris Doctorate at the New England School of Law in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating with honors, cum laude in 2001.
During his studies at the University of Tennessee, Mr. Nowicki participated in the study abroad program and studied a semester at the University of Swansea, Wales, with his studies focusing on Welsh Literature. He also participated in the work abroad program, and worked for the law firm of Jones, Day, Reavis and Pogue in London, England.
In 2001, Mr. Nowicki began his law career in Private Practice in Lancaster, South Carolina, practicing in the areas of Personal Injury, Criminal Defense, Employment Law, Probate, Wills and Estates. Mr. Nowicki then worked as an Assistant Solicitor in the Sixth Judicial Circuit under former Solicitor, Doug Barfield, and prosecuted numerous criminal cases. After leaving the Solicitor’s Office, Mr. Nowicki went to work as an Assistant Public Defender in the Sixth Judicial Circuit under Mike Lifsey, the Circuit Public Defender, and defended numerous cases in court, including Driving Under the Influence, Domestic Violence, Drug cases, Armed Robbery, Burglary, etc.
Mr. Nowicki is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association, as well as a member of the York County Bar Association. He is an active member in his community as he has participated in career day and other events at Erwin Elementary in Lancaster, South Carolina. He has presented seminars on Wills and Estates in local churches. He is actively involved with ROAR Sports in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
