South Carolina has the country’s eighth-highest rate of motorcycle deaths, according to a study using data from 2021.

In 2021, there were 5636 motorcycle deaths nationwide, and Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri have the highest rates of motorcycle fatalities.

According to the SC Department of Public Safety, 664 people had already been killed on SC highways as of September 1, 2023, and 77 of those deaths were motorcyclists.

Below, we will list just a fraction of the deaths that occur on the South Carolina road. Many were caused by careless drivers who were not on the lookout for motorcyclists, not including the thousands of motorcyclists who are injured every year in motorcycle crashes.

They include:

  • Single-motorcycle crashes,
  • Multi-vehicle motorcycle crashes,
  • Crashes where the motorcyclist was at fault, and
  • Crashes where the motorcyclist was the victim of a negligent driver.

If you are driving, be on the lookout for motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians – they are at a greater risk of severe injury or death when your enclosed metal vehicle collides with them. Look twice, save a life…

If you are riding, be safe, and call us if you need us.
