BIKE RALLY SAFETY TIPS
Before You Hit the Road
· Check the weather: Almost all the fun is to be had outside, so make sure you have appropriate clothing for the weather. If you haven’t already, start checking the seven-day and even 10-day forecasts.
· Pamper your bike: Take your motorcycle in for a tune-up before you hit the road. Make sure your oil is changed and tires are good for the trip.
· Bring your helmet: Adults are not required to wear a helmet in Myrtle Beach, but, depending on where you’re coming from, you could pass through areas that require helmets. Also, you should wear a helmet regardless of the law – it can save your life or spare you from traumatic brain injury.

At the Rally
· Stay sober and stay vigilant: There will be a lot of people on the road. Unfortunately, some will be intoxicated, and others will not be paying attention – don’t be one of those people. Keep your mind sharp, put your phone away, and ride defensively.
· Wear appropriate gear: Protect your feet and hands and wear clothing that will protect your skin if you fall. Denim and leather are tried and true, but it’s worth checking out newer gear that combines good protection, lightweight materials, and subtle reflective stitching so others can see you.
· Avoid unfamiliar roads: The city has created a route for the rally, and you should generally stick to it. Other roads may not be safe for riding, and a lot of drivers may not be on the alert for bikers outside the official event areas.
· Be prepared: Traffic will be tough, and you may find it hard to stop and get what you need – like gas. Fuel up before you come and pay attention to your gas gauge. Bring water and snacks – and don’t forget sunscreen.
