You are less likely to be involved in a rollover accident than just about any other kind of auto wreck.

- Passing: Many rollover accidents happen when a driver aborts an attempt to pass another vehicle, overcorrects, and loses control.
- No seatbelt: Drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seatbelt are almost twice as likely to die in a rollover crash.
The vast majority of rollover crashes are single-car accidents. Of these, almost 95 percent are known as “tripped” rollovers, when the vehicle runs off the road and “trips” over a ditch, a curb, or a guardrail. Less common “untripped” rollovers happen when a driver loses control, often at high speeds, of a top-heavy vehicle.
