Myrtle Beach is a destination popular with tourists, particularly during the summer months. After Memorial Day weekend, there will be more people on the roads in Myrtle Beach and throughout South Carolina, and as a result, there may be more car accidents as well.

In order to reduce the number of car accidents and keep people safe, law enforcement will be increasing the number of officers patrolling the roads. They hope that with an increased presence, it will encourage better driving habits on the roads. You may know that South Carolina Highway Patrol calls the 100 days following Memorial Day the 100 Deadly Days of Summer.

Safer driving leads to fewer accident injuries

Between the end of May and Labor Day weekend, there are more accidents simply because there are more people traveling. School is not in session, families are traveling on vacation and there are more people out and about, especially in a tourist area. As you know, unsafe driving leads to a higher chance of an accident, especially during busy times.

Law enforcement wants to encourage safer driving, and they will do this by pulling over drivers who are doing anything that could endanger themselves and others. They will be specifically looking for signs of any of the following dangerous behaviors:

  • Speeding
  • Distracted driving
  • Drunk driving
  • Motorists not wearing seatbelts

Every driver is responsible for the choices he or she makes behind the wheel. From reading a text message to driving over the speed limit, drivers can be held accountable for anything they do that causes another person harm.

If you are the victim of an accident during the summer, you would be wise to take quick action to defend your interests and learn how you may be able to seek financial compensation for your losses.

What to do after an accident

If you are the victim of another driver, you do not have to suffer from negligent or reckless actions on your own. Through a civil claim, you may be able to recoup your losses and secure compensation for your pain and suffering.

After any type of motor vehicle collision, you will find it helpful to seek a complete evaluation of your case and explanation of your legal options as soon as possible. Summer brings more tourists and more accidents, but you always have the right to learn how you can shield your interests and well-being.
